SDI & CMAS

Scuba Diving International

We are affiliated to Scuba Diving International (SDI) which was created in 1998, following the success on their sister company Technical Diving International (TDI). SDI is one of the largest training agencies in the world.

CMAS

The Confederation Mondiale des Activities Subaquatiques (CMAS) is the world governing body for our sport. It was set up in 1958 to oversee the standards in training and behaviour and to issue guidelines to all affiliated organisations to ensure that diving is carried out in a safe and responsible manner.

By the way, we’re often asked the meaning of SCUBA – it’s simply an acronym for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus!

(Not, as one member enthusiastically put it ‘swimming clockwise underwater by air’).
